Herodot, Anadolu’nun güney batısında, bir Karya şehri olan Halikarnas’da (Bodrum) M.Ö. 484’de doğdu. O tarihlerde Halikarnas’ı korkusuz savaşçı kraliçe Artemisia yönetiyordu.
