\u00d6zdinler, “Karde\u015fim aniden beyin kanamas\u0131 ge\u00e7irdi, ailecek peri\u015fan olduk. Beyin konusunda \u00e7ok az \u015fey biliyordum. ABD’ye doktora i\u00e7in gittim fakat karde\u015fim vefat etmeseydi belki bitki biyoteknolojisi okuyacakt\u0131m. Doktoram\u0131n \u00fc\u00e7\u00fcnc\u00fc senesi olmas\u0131na ra\u011fmen b\u00fct\u00fcn kolumu de\u011fi\u015ftirip sinir bilimlerine y\u00f6neldim” dedi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karde\u015finin \u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fc \u00fczerine n\u00f6roloji bilimine y\u00f6nelen Hande \u00d6zdinler, ayn\u0131 y\u0131l ABD\u2019ye giderek Northwestern \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nde \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmaya ba\u015flad\u0131.Bug\u00fcn \u00fcniversitenin Beyin Motor N\u00f6ronlar\u0131 Ara\u015ft\u0131rma Merkezi\u2019nin y\u00f6neticisi olan \u00d6zdinler ve ekibinin yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar sonucunda ALS hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131na \u00e7are olacak bir kimyasal madde bulundu. \u00d6zdinler ve ekibi, NU-9 isimli kimyasal maddeyle \u00f6len motor n\u00f6ronlar\u0131, 60 g\u00fcnl\u00fck bir tedavi sonras\u0131nda sa\u011fl\u0131kl\u0131 n\u00f6ronlar seviyesine getirmeyi ba\u015fard\u0131. \u00d6zdinler y\u00fcr\u00fct\u00fclen \u00e7al\u0131\u015fman\u0131n \u00f6nemini \u015fu s\u00f6zlerle anlat\u0131yor: \u201c\u00dcst motor n\u00f6ronlar\u0131 hareketleri ba\u015flatmaktan ve iletmekten sorumlu.
